Treatment of hyperhidrosis - effective methods
Cosmetic preparations for topical application are patients' first choice for the treatment of hyperhidrosis. In some people, such treatment is sufficient, although somewhat burdensome due to the need for regular application.
Another method of treating excessive sweating of the feet and hands is injection of botulinum toxin. Botulinum toxin is a substance widely used in various fields of medicine nowadays. However, it has a special place in dermatology and aesthetic medicine. It works by blocking the secretion of acetylcholine, an important mediator in the sweating process. Basically, this means that the nerves responsible for stimulating sweating are blocked. The treatment can be performed on practically any area of the body. First, a local anaesthetic cream is applied and then, using a very short and thin needle, the preparation is inserted into the skin by pricking. Constant cooling with ethyl chloride, which has an additional anaesthetic effect, increases comfort during the procedure. Immediately after the treatment, small bruises may be visible, followed by small scabs at the injection site. The procedure should not be performed in the hands of people whose work requires very precise hand movements, such as the job of a watchmaker, because it can lead to temporary weakness of hand muscles. The inconvenience of this method may be the necessity to repeat the procedure every 6-9 months.
