Hydrorchis surgery
Hydrorchis is a condition consisting in enlargement of the scrotum circumference due to accumulation of fluid between the testicle sheaths, which hinders movement, proper sexual intercourse and results in unsightly appearance of male sexual organs. At Ambroziak Clinic, we offer effective treatment and surgery of hydrorchis.
Hydrorchis surgery (hydrocelectomy) involves separating the hydroma from the scrotum, then draining it of water and cutting out excess sheaths. These sheaths are then stitched together to prevent recurrence. A very important element of the hydrorchis surgery is diagnostics before the operation, which consists of carrying out testicular ultrasound and tumour markers, thanks to which the doctor can exclude coexisting cancer.
Why is it worth it?
Subarachnoid or intravenous anaesthesia makes the operation painless for the patient. He can go home as soon as on the next day after the surgery. Thanks to skilful suturing of the sheaths, recurrence of the disease is impossible and the preoperative ultrasound examination additionally fulfils the diagnostic task.

FAQ
Before the operation, a number of tests are performed to rule out cancerous lesions and to determine whether the patient is eligible for surgery. Hydrorchis surgery lasts about 30 minutes to 1 hour. During the operation the patient lies on his back and receives anaesthesia. There are two techniques for performing the operation - Winkelmann's and von Bergmann's. These two methods differ in terms of place of access to the hydroma. The day after the procedure, the patient is discharged from the hospital and receives detailed instructions from the doctor.
After the surgery, the patient should strictly follow the doctor's instructions. For a few weeks after the operation, patients are advised to live a quiet lifestyle and avoid physical activity. Do not have sexual intercourse for 3-4 weeks after the surgery. Additionally, the patient should wear close-fitting underwear to reduce friction and swelling after the surgery. During dressing changes, the wound should be washed with products such as Octenisept and on a daily basis care should be taken not to get the wound dirty or wet the dressings. The patient should attend a follow-up appointment 7-10 days after the procedure. If strong discomfort occurs, the patient should visit the Clinic immediately.
